Three early goals from the captain John Terry, on-form Sturridge and all-rounder Mata secured whole 3 points for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Has this win against Wolves fully saved AVB from being sacked??
It was a dream start for Chelsea as Ramires tried his best from outside the box in the 5th minute, but Hennessey saw that coming and the ball went for a corner. Mata’s corner reached the raising captain whose header went directly into the goal in the 6th minute. Its Chelsea 1 Wolves 0. What a performance by Chelsea in the early stages. This early goal gave AVB some breathing space as some section of the crowd wanted to see a new manager incharge because Chelsea have lost 4 games in 7 matches and its definitely a worst start, isn’t it? Lampard and Torres were sitting in the bench while Anelka was not even in the bench. Wolves first chance came when Ward reacted well to meet Jarvis cross but he can’t control his header and hence missed the target. Once again at 29th minute, opportunity knocked at Chelsea and they grabbed it as Mata once again the creator, constructed the goal for Sturridge and he never failed to convert it as he smashed it inside the goal. This goal made AVB more comfortable.
This is Sturidge’s 6th goal for Chelsea matching with the midfielder Lampard. Chelsea were building in confidence after this goal as majority of possession was with Chelsea. Chelsea was all the while attacking with Mata, Drogba and Sturridge proving a potential threat to the visitors Wolves. Just then 1 minute before the half-time whistle Drogba retrieved the rebound off Berra from his own shot and passed it back to Ashely Cole whose knee-high cross reached the unmarked Mata who netted the ball inside the net from a short-range. Is this the special day that AVB had dreamt about??
Chelsea started the second-half pretty comfortably with majority possession. There was not much attacking in the second period and fans were shouting for the introduction of Torres as Drogba was quiet the whole period. Ramires and Sturridge continued to impress AVB with their long shots and tricks. There where not much matter in this period though, as Chelsea secured all three vital points against Wolves. Its against Liverpool on Tuesday that AVB will be tested if he capable enough to continue at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup.
