Chelsea’s summer spending spree has reportedly netted the UEFA Champions League winners another world-class attacking talent. According to David Hytner of The Guardian, the Blues have agreed to a fee of £38 million for Porto striker Hulk. The 25-year-old Brazil international had long been connected to the West London club, even more so after the Blues pulled off a surprising double in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
According to reports, both sides have agreed to the transfer, with only the club directors’ signatures still required to complete the deal, which is still subject to a medical exam.
Hulk, 25, has 57 goals in 91 games over the past two seasons and has played with the Brazilian national team during exhibitions this week. He scored twice against Denmark on Saturday. He has scored 16 goals and added seven assists while helping the Portistas defend their Primeira Liga title in Portugal this season. He had been with Porto since 2008, when he left Japan.
Personal terms are understood to have been agreed already, however, and although Porto are denying that they are close to an agreement, it appears that the transfer is moving closer. –Jason Burt of The Telegraph
With Eden Hazard set to be announced on Saturday, we could end up having a really fun weekend. I mean, it’s kind of crazy in terms of money, but at some point, we’ve got to sit back and enjoy the fireworks, right?!
After winning the Champions League last season, Chelsea lost striker Didier Drogba and will release forward Salomon Kalou and defender Jose Bosingwa at the end of June.
Meanwhile, Napoli are looking to strengthen their defence with a move for Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. The 28-year-old has been chosen by Partenopei coach Walter Mazzarri as the man he wants to help improve a sometimes leaky backline. According to Talksport, Napoli will look to move for the player this summer. It is also thought that Juventus and Real Madrid are eyeing the player, but Chelsea are not keen on selling as Ivanovic has become a key player at Stamford Bridge.
