On the evening Pep Guardiola was confirmed as Bayern Munich manager for next season, Chelsea’s miserable home form continued letting a comfortable 2 goal lead slip against Southampton

Chelsea have been highly inconsistent, much like most of last season. They are now 13 points off the pace. Their home form under Rafael Benitez has been poor since he took over, with the 8-0 thrashing of Aston Villa his only home league victory. The final whistle was once again responded to with a chorus of boos.

Demba Ba retained his place upfront ahead of Fernando Torres and John Terry once again earned a place on the bench, currently still not quite match fit.

Chelsea played Southampton for the second time this month, having already beaten them 4-1 in the FA Cup at St Mary’s.
