Frank Lampard is a major doubt for England’s friendly clash with old rivals Scotland later this month.
The Chelsea midfielder has yet to feature in the Blues’ opening four pre-season matches, after picking up a knock in the warm-up prior to their first fixture in Asia which has left him struggling with an Achilles problem.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already insisted he won’t be risking the 35-year-old ahead of the new campaign, meaning the Blues’ record goalscorer is unlikely to feature much in his side’s remaining three games in the US.
And Lampard’s lack of involvement is likely to make it difficult for England boss Roy Hodgson to include him in his squad to face Scotland at Wembley on August 14.
Chelsea’s next pre-season friendly is against AC Milan in New York on Sunday night, but there has been no indication from the club as to Lampard’s fitness.
